Making Key / Locksmith Guide
Important: Acura RL models in this section do not have a trunk lock. Cutting must be precise: an incorrect cut can cause the lock to clutch and retain the key, requiring cylinder disassembly.

Glove-box or compartment cylinder: remove the cylinder and read its stamped code. The usable code is the last four numbers.

Door-lock progression: use the HON58R decoder carefully on the door lock, then progression the remaining cuts.

Emergency start: the proximity-equipped RL can accept an HD103 emergency transponder key with a Philips 46 “V” chip. The ignition twist knob can be released by inserting a key or screwdriver to disengage its clip; the programmed emergency key can then start the vehicle.
