Making Key / Locksmith Guide

Most locks and some glove-box cylinders may carry a stamped code. U.S. codes begin with K, L, M, or N. During manual cutting, position 5 requires special attention: the master-key cut is depth 5 and the valet cut is depth 2. The valet function may operate the glove box, rear-seat pass-through, trunk, or trunk lock-out when equipped.
  1. Decode with HON66 Lishi: read and decode an accessible lock cylinder.
  2. Check secondary cylinders: inspect the glove-box, trunk, or valet lock-out cylinder for a usable stamped code.
  3. Door-lock method: remove the door lock, read the stamped code, or disassemble the lock to derive the cuts.

Caution: Some glove-box covers are sealed and access to the door lock can be time-consuming. Verify the cylinder layout and the position “A” rule before the final cut.
