Locksmith Guide

Most Acura TL locks from this system may have a key code stamped on the lock cylinder. On U.S. vehicles, the key code normally begins with one of the following letters: K, L, M, or N.
The code series for this HON66 system is: K001–K999, L001–L999, M001–M999, and N001–N718.
When cutting the key manually, pay special attention to position 5. For a master key, position 5 is normally cut to depth 5. For valet function, position 5 may be cut to depth 2.
The valet function may be used for glove box, rear seat pass-through, trunk, or trunk lock-out features when the vehicle is equipped with them.
Positions 1 through 4 use split tumblers. Position 5 is a solid tumbler with two possible depths: one side is used for the valet cut and the other side is used for the combination depth. Position 6 is always a pre-cut position.

Correct Depth for Position “A”

Code Series Range Depth for Position “A”
K001–K684, L349–M032, M697–N214 3
K685–L348, M033–M696, N215–N718 5

Recommended Ways to Make a Key

  1. Decode with HON66 Lishi: Use a HON66 Lishi reader/decoder to decode the lock when a usable lock cylinder is available.
  2. Check available lock cylinders: Look for a glove box lock, trunk lock, or valet lock-out cylinder if the vehicle is equipped with one. Some vehicles may have a valet cylinder near the left side of the driver’s seat.
  3. Read the stamped code: If a cylinder has a stamped key code, the key can be made by code.
  4. Door lock method: If no easier code source is available, remove the door lock cylinder, read the stamped code if present, or disassemble the lock to generate the key cuts.
Locksmith note: Some glove box covers may be sealed, and on some vehicles accessing the door lock cylinder can be time-consuming. Always verify the cylinder layout before cutting the final key.
